Description

Immerse yourself in the late Victorian era with this exquisite claret jug crafted by Hukin and Heath. The elongated trumpet-shaped body, made of transparent glass, is adorned with an entwined handle resembling a green glass snake, held by silver mounts. Notably, the lid of the jug can be lifted using the long silver wire handle, a mechanism often employed by Hukin and Heath on many of their pieces. It is unfortunate that the mechanism is missing from this particular jug. The glass used in their creations during this period is believed to have been supplied by Stevens and Williams. The history of Hukin and Heath, a fascinating silver and tableware manufacturer from the late 19th to mid-20th century, remains intriguing. The employment of Dr. Christopher Dresser as a designer from 1878 to around 1884 overshadowed the multitude of other innovative designs introduced by the company.
